You gotta love it when a new transplant to the area is eager to embrace the Yooper lifestyle. Recently a couple had moved from a rather suburban setting to a U.P. lake front home and in their enthusiasm to acclimate to our distinct northwood culture have regularly called and stopped in to check proper protocol, local custom and general advise. It starts with the usual "where do I get this" or "who do I call to do that" which comes with any new home purchase. But with fall in the air and the Maple trees puttin' on their Sunday best it has quickly progressed from "where can I get a burn barrel and what can I burn when" to "what's this buzz I hear about doe tags and where can I hunt" culminating with "how does the bait shop and the hardware store know everyone's name?" It's a great place to be! |
